were taken from beside the highway between Mareeba and Emerald Creek.
We are seeking people's video footage and possibly still shots from
elevated locations where the footage shows how the eclipse darkened the
landscape and how the contrast in light varied and changed. I am
wondering if the shadow of the moon was seen tracking across
the landscape from an elevated area or from a balloon. Footage in areas
near the edge of the path of totality would also be valuable, because
most interested people would not see this, as they would be near the
centre of the path of totality. At lookouts near the edge of the path,
the contrast in light in different areas should be more noticeable.
People could upload the footage on to Youtube and send me a link to it.
Please also share any
records during the eclipse of light intensity and
weather conditions including temperature and barometric pressure. Also,
which street lights turn on, and what stars or planets become visible?
Please see the videos of how the light changes across the sky and landscape during the eclipse. They also include the eclipse itself.
Part 1 shows the last couple of minutes before totality and the
beginning of totality. I left some parts in that are not panned well so
there would be no significant parts edited out so you see the action in
real time.

Part 2 is filmed soon after part 1 and just after a small break where I
used the camera to take some still shots of totality. Non significant
parts are edited out so you see it in real time.

I have also uploaded a video of the eclipse during totality. It also includes the partial phases just before and after totality. Some parts were edited out. The camera did not have a tracking system. Therefore the sun moved towards the edge of the frame. I am not sure what is causing the dilations just as totality ends. Perhaps it is some distortion. You could match the audio to the two above videos to see what the percentage of the sun is covered when the light is at a cetain level

My friend who was with me also uploaded a video at
